TEAM/TRYOUTS ___________________________________
What do the various seasons look like?
NewLax begins in June and runs seasonally throughout the year. Join once and get fun practices and events throughout the Summer, Fall, and Winter. We have tryouts for our Summer teams in March and Fall our teams in August. We run very heavily in June and July for our summer season. For Fall, we have events throughout September, October, and November. Our Winter season is a bit lighter with a few events throughout January and February. Lastly, the Spring season is left alone for you to play with your towns and high schools. Teams will be selected in Summer and again in the Fall.
What is the difference between a Practice Player and an Elite Team Player?
For High Schoolers, NewLax gives you the option to participate in tournaments OR just play to get better. Practice players do not need to tryout and their membership allows them to attend ANY/ALL of the “All Club” practice dates for the year. They may also attend any extraneous ALL CLUB events that we decide to add as a pay per player event (ex. smaller added tournaments, playdays, clinics etc. This does not include Elite tournaments). Elite players are players who have tried out and been selected for a team
What Elite Teams do you offer?
For High School players we offer teams for incoming freshmen through graduating juniors (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016). For Middle School players we offer teams for for 5th and 6th graders as well as 7th and 8th graders.
Do I have to tryout for NewLAX?
No, but you do have to try out for our Elite Teams. If you are interested in high caliber coaching and a greater level of competition then you should look to tryout for one of our Elite Teams.
Am I eligible for the NewLAX Elite Teams?
If you are a HS player that is competitive and interested in playing with and against some of the best players in the region then YES! However, you need to be a NewLax member in order to play on an Elite Team
Could I get cut?
You cannot get cut from NewLax as a club but you may get cut from and Elite Team based on numbers. We take between 18-20 players maximum per Elite team. If possible we will field up to two Elite teams for each graduations year.
If I get cut, can I tryout again next season?
YES! ABSOLUTELY and we encourage you to do that!!
How are the Elite Teams selected during tryouts?
Team selections and placements are determined by the NewLax staff's professional opinion in conjunction with whatever qualified, outside coach or entity we decide to bring in and contract for the selections. These selections are based on but is not limited to the following:
1. Player attitude
2. Athleticism and potential
3. Lacrosse field sense and understanding of the game
4. Work ethic and consistency
5. Coach-ability and the executing direction
6. Skilll
Can I get kicked off of an Elite Team?
Yes, if you do not attend the committed tournaments, events, and practices respectively you risk losing your Elite Team spot and rendering yourself ineligible for elite team consideration in the future. Please ask about our ATTENDANCE policies, or if you are already a member, refer to you NewLax handbook.
Can I get kicked out of NewLAX?
YES. Like we said, ATTENDANCE is huge! If you don't attend MOST/ALL of the events/practices during one season, we assume you won't the next season. It's about building trust and being reliable! Please ask about our ATTENDANCE policies, or if you are already a member, refer to you NewLax handbook.
NewLAX FEES AND POLICIES___________________________________
Are tournaments included?
For a player who makes an Elite team, mandatory tournaments are included in their team fee (this does not include your personal travel costs). However we will have additional tournaments available to our members for an extra fee. The tournaments, where an extra fee is required, will be marked very clearly on the seasonal schedule.
Why extra fees?
Well, that's a good one. If we do have an extra fee, it is because we pay our coaches, the most important people to our members. We also pay tournament fees - some tournaments ask for team fees and some request payment by individuals attending. If we are offering any additional services (dinner, gift, transportation, guest speaker), we calculate that into the total.
How important is attending everything?
VERY IMPORTANT! Especially if you are on a NewLax Elite Team! If you are on an Elite Team and you miss ANY scheduled practices or events for that season, you will incure consequences as outlined in our NewLax Handbook available per request. We have to be able to field full teams in order to provide quality opportunities for everyone! It's NOT COOL to be a NewLax DROPOUT, no one wants a teammate who is continually MIA...MISSING IN LAX-TION! Your teammates will be counting on you - and you on them!
What is the tournament cancellation/no show policy?
When you register for a tournament/event you are entering into a commitment. You are committed not only to your team but also to NewLax. If you register for a tournament and cancel on your team within 7 days or less before the tournament date you will be forced to pay a cancellation/no show fee. There are no refunds issued for any cancellations no matter how early they are voiced with the exception of injury. Players may also incur an on-field penalty depending on the infraction. Details can be found in our NewLax Handbook.
What is the NewLAX cancellation policy?
THERE ARE NO REFUNDS FOR THE NewLax MEMBERSHIP!
In the event of a season ending injury you will be eligible for a maximim of a full credit towards a future NewLax event and a minimun of a 25% refund based on injury date. This will be determined on a case by case basis at the discretion of NewLax Club Inc./BOUNCE ENTERTAINMENT.
NOTE: There are NO REFUNDS or PARTIAL PAYMENTS for scheduling conflicts or for any other reasons other then the one listed above.
*Additional details regarding NewLAX policies are available electronically per request. For current members, please reference your NewLAX Handbook (distributed 2012).
COMMUNICATION___________________________________
How do you communicate with members?
The NewLax WEBSITE is always up-to-date with information and a has a FANCY LOOK - ANY time of the day you can go on the site and get the latest news on NewLax and scheduling/event details!
We also use EMAIL A TON to send you IMPORTANT event/practice reminders that will direct you to the site for more information.
Lastly, we are now using SMS TEXT so that we can get you the latest information as fast, as direct, and as conveniently as possible!
And of course you can CALL us anytime!
Who is expected to communicate?
For our High School players, it is pertinent that THE PLAYER be the one to communicate with us the most. As the recruiting process continues to speed up, it is VERY important that the players take responsibility of their email and phone communication. Parent communication, while not unwelcomed is expected to be minimal if possible to put that responsibility on the player. Please see the communication section of the NewLax Handbook for details (Handbook available per request).
How big are the teams?
Teams will have between 18-22 girls. Elite Teams will carry 19 players. Once again, ATTENDANCE is everything! We form these teams anticipating that we may have injuries or attendance issues. We specifically use this range to give YOU the best playing opportunity in terms of field time and functionality.
What is expected of me?
We expect that BEFORE you register you look at the schedule! Once you are a member we expect that you show up, attend the events we plan and HAVE FUN!! Of course, we always expect that you be honest with us - good or bad!
What are my responsibilities as an Elite Player?
If you are selected as an Elite Team player you MUST commit to/attend ALL practices and events. Absence to a mandatory team practice or event will be peinalized. Absences will be dealt with based on the following tiered scale.
1st OFFENSE: If a player misses a mandatory team practice/event she will be banned from the starting lineup at the next tournament/ team event.
2nd OFFENSE: If a player misses a second mandatory team practice/event, she will sit for the next FULL tournament/team event.
3rd OFFENSE: If a player misses a third mandatory team practice/event, she will forfeit her spot on the team for the remainder of the season.
Exception: injury, illness, or the player has previously notified us of a crucial recruiting event that she feels and we agree is necessary for her to attend.
OTHER OPPORTUNITIES: BOUNCE/XTEAM___________________________________
I want to play more, are there other opportunities to play?
YES! Sometimes we will offer our NewLax members the opportunity to attend tournaments/camps with BOUNCE/XTEAM that occur outside of the local CT region. These events (and any events NOT listed on schedule) will be an additional cost. If there is an event that you're super interested in, let us know and we'll try to make it happen for you if we can!
